WASATCH WILDFLOWER FESTIVAL

We continued up to Cecret Lake at the turn around point of the wildflower talk.


WE HIKED WITHOUT TAKING THE SHUTTLE
Free shuttle buses were available to take folks up the dirt road to both Catherine Pass and Cecret Lake trailheads for those who didn't want to hike extra miles.

Friday the festival was at Solitude and Brighton.
Saturday it was at Alta.  And Sunday at Snowbird.
Alta had acoustic music and offered a Kids walk, Beginner walk to the lower Albion basin, Intermediate walk to the upper Albion basin, and Advance walk up to Twin Lakes pass.


CECRET LAKE

RATINGS:  Moderate 
MILEAGE: 2.3 miles each way
ELEVATION GAIN: 1300'
HIKE TIME: Allow 3 hours for Wildflower tour and Cecret Lake Hike
WATERSHED: No swimming in lakes and no wading in streams.  No dogs allowed.









DIRECTIONS:  Enter Little Cottonwood Canyon, 4323 Little Cottonwood Road, Sandy, Utah drive up to the top of the paved road in Alta.
RESTROOMS: available at parking area and near the campground.

BALD MOUNTAIN


DESCRIPTION: Bald Mountain offers great views of the Uintas. This trail has a lot of exposure and steep drop offs.  Make sure you bring a warm jacket.
RATINGS: MODERATE PLUS
MILEAGE: 1.75 miles each way
ELEVATION GAIN: 1,200
HIKE TIME: Allow 4 hours to enjoy Bald Mountain hike.
DRIVE TIME: Allow 1.5 hours from Salt Lake City

FOSSIL BUTTE NATIONAL MONUMENT

"Some of the world's best preserved fossils are found in the flat-topped ridges of southwestern Wyoming's cold sagebrush desert. Fossilized fishes, insects, plants, reptiles, birds, and mammals are exceptional for their abundance, variety, and detail of preservation."

Fossil Butte National Monument is located west of Kemmerer, Wyoming.   The visitor center has a wonderful collection of fossils.   (Fossils from Noah's Flood.) 
The Monument has two hiking trails and one picnic area.


NATURE TRAIL LOOP ~ 1.5 miles
Restrooms and picnic area at the trailhead.
There are a few benches on this loop.  
This is a great hike if you don't have a lot of time.
Hike time 45 minutes.





 
HISTORIC QUARRY TRAIL LOOP ~ 2.5 miles
600' Elevation gain.   Hike in the cool part of the day and bring plenty of water.  Restrooms are available at the trailhead.  Hike time 2 hours.

GOOD NEWS JAIL and PRISON MINISTRY BICYCLE RIDE


Choice of a low-key ride for Kids and casual riders,
paved and gravel parkway trails for energetic bikers, or
tour of Park City on road bicycles.   Enjoy a wonderful BBQ.  All proceeds help the Good News Jail and Prison Ministry and chaplains serving in the Salt Lake County Jail.

ELEVATION GAIN:  800'
RATINGS: Moderate









DIRECTIONS: Smith and Moorehouse is located up the Weber Canyon Road from Oakley, Utah.  The trailhead is located south of the lake in the campground area.   Follow the signs.
RESTROOMS: Available at the trailhead
HIKE TIME:  Allow 3 1/2 hours total
