SNOWSHOE 101




It was a wonderful day in the mountain, being with God.    Today we went up Mill D South Fork.   Some of our group went to Doughnut Falls, while others went through the campground area.
No dogs are allowed in Big Cottonwood due to Watershed.
Big Cottonwood begins at Wasatch Blvd. and Fort Union Blvd, in Salt Lake City, UT
Restroom is available near the parking area.

HIKE to the LIVING ROOM

DESCRIPTION:  Enjoy a hike to an overlook with stone furniture.
RATINGS: MODERATE 
MILEAGE: 1.4 miles each way 
ELEVATION: 950' gain 
KIDS & DOGS enjoy this trail. 
NO RESTROOMS are available 
HIKE TIME: Allow 2 hours, plus time at the Living Room 
DIRECTIONS: From Foothill Blvd, near the U of U, follow signs to Red Butte Gardens. 

Drive up Wakara Way (300 South) and turn
right on Colorow Road (2310 East) and park.   
3 hour parking limit signs posted along the road, 8am to 6pm

GEAR: Jacket, water, hiking poles, snacks, camera, and friends.

SKYLINE NATURE TRAIL


DESCRIPTION:  Enjoy a hike around the outside parameter of Red Butte Gardens.   
From the south side of the Natural History Museum, take the fence trail up the hill.
Take the main trail following the fence line.   The trail drop down to the Red Butte road.
You have a choice of climbing the hill or taking the Red Butte road back to the Bonneville Shoreline trail.
RATINGS: MODERATE
MILEAGE: 3 mile loop

RATTLESNAKE GULCH

Enjoy hiking a steep climb up Rattlesnake Gulch to the level Pipeline trail.  And at the overlook you'll see great views of Salt Lake. 
RATINGS: Moderate Plus
MILEAGE: 3.4 miles total
HIKE TIME: 2 hours
CANYON FEE: $3 per vehicle or $2 seniors.
DOGS: may be off leash on odd days
DIRECTIONS:  Millcreek Canyon is at 3800 South and Wasatch Blvd, SLC, UT

from Highland Drive, take RAMBLING ROAD to the round-about,
turn right on MIKE WEIR DRIVE,

turn left toward the Draper Temple parking,
turn right on CANYON VISTA LN.
turn left on GREY FOX DR.
turn right on COYOTE HOLLOW CT.

AUTUMN in ADAMS CANYON

Enjoy Autumn leaves while hiking an obstacle course.
The canyon trail, follows a bubbling stream, through a forest of firs, scrub oaks,
box elders, and maples. On the trail, you will pass by a huge fir tree, cross a wooden bridge, follow hidden trails, climb over rocky areas, walk along narrow ledges, walk under huge logs, step on stones across the stream, and cool off by Adams Canyon Falls.
RATINGS: MODERATE PLUS
ELEVATION GAIN: 1,212'
HIKE TIME: 3 1/2 hours
MILEAGE: 3.9 miles round trip
NO RESTROOMS: 
DIRECTIONS from SLC  (45 minute drive)
take I-15 north,
after passing Lagoon 
take (exit 324) US 89 North,
when you drive through OAK HILLS DRIVE intersection,
turn right at the next street, turn right again, drive south on East Side Drive to a dirt parking lot,
east of the Oak Hills Intersection.
DIRECTIONS from Ogden 
take US 89 south toward Farmington,
after passing mile marker 402,
turn left at the next street,
turn right and drive south on East Side Drive to a dirt parking lot,
east of the Oak Hills Dr. Intersection.

RAIL TRAIL - Park City to I-80



God gave us a wonderful day to ride the Rail Trail


Enjoy a ride on the Historic Rail Trail mountain biking from Park City to I-80 and back.
Ratings: Moderate 
Total Miles: 16.8 miles
Elevation Gain: 570'
Directions: Take I-80 eastbound; take Kimball Junction exit & turn right to Park City; about 5.5 miles, turn left on Kearns 

Blvd.; turn right on Bonanza Blvd; turn left on Prospector Ave & drive past the shopping plaza; turn right into parking lot & park near the Union Pacific Rail trail sign.

SMITH and MOOREHOUSE ADVENTURE

Today was an awesome day with the Lord. Some of our group went fishing and others enjoyed a hike on the Smith and Moorehouse trail 001 to MYSTERY FALLS.


MYSTERY FALLS HIKE
MILEAGE: 2.4 miles to the falls on trail 001
ELEVATION GAIN:  620'
RATINGS: Moderate
DIRECTIONS: Smith and Moorehouse is located up the Weber Canyon Road from Oakley, Utah.  The trailhead is located south of the lake in the campground area.   Follow the signs.
RESTROOMS: Available at the trailhead
HIKE TIME:  Allow 3 1/2 hours total

BIG COTTONWOOD OVERLOOK


DESCRIPTION: Be careful crossing the road to the north side of the canyon.
If you would like to see HIDDEN FALLS, a dry trail is found by scrambling around the large rock, counterclockwise. Please remember that this is a Watershed Area. No dogs, no wading, and no washing in the water. This is our drinking water!
MILL B NORTHFORK, begins by going up some Grand Canyon staircase. The first climb is steep & more Intermediate. You'll get some great views of the S Curve as you begin switchbacking. 
You'll drop over the hill and follow a bubbling stream. Huge rocks and forest make this a wonderful setting entering the Mount Olympus Wilderness area.
After climbing more switchbacks, you'll head south to the canyon edge. As the trail turns east, you'll find a large trail leading to the rocky overlook with steep exposure. This is the Big Cottonwood Overlook.
TRAILHEAD: North side of the S Curve in Big Cottonwood Canyon.   

HIKE TIME:  2 hours 
MILEAGE: 1 1/2 mile est. to overlook
RATINGS: MODERATE

GRANITE LAKES LOOP

DESCRIPTION:  This is a beautiful Autumn loop.   From Silver Lake, take the trail up to Twin Lakes Reservoir and go to the south side of the lake.   Look for a small hiking trail on the south side of the dam.   This will take you to the north side of Lake Mary.   Hike down to a miner's cabin and follow the Lake Mary trail down to the Brighton parking lot.
MILEAGE: 3.5 miles
ELEVATION GAIN:  1200'
HIKE TIME:  Allow 3 hours

TWIN LAKES RESERVOIR
WATERSHED: No dogs allowed and no swimming.
DIRECTIONS:  Drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Brighton and park at Silver Lake.

AUTUMN @ SALT LAKE OVERLOOK


SALT LAKE OVERLOOK
DESOLATION TRAIL
THAYNES CANYON FORT




DESCRIPTION:  Take a hike on the Desolation trail.  At the fork, take the trail to the right and not the Thaynes Canyon trail.  You'll enjoy switchbacks, lush forest and views of Millcreek Canyon.



KIDS enjoy this hike, but must be watched.
RATINGS: Moderate
MILEAGE: 2 miles to the overlook
ELEVATION GAIN: 1250'
HIKE TIME: 2 to 3 hours
RESTROOM at trailhead.
DOGS are welcome.
FEE:  Millcreek Canyon fee $3 per vehicle, seniors $2
DIRECTIONS: Enter Millcreek Canyon at 3800 South, Wasatch Blvd. SLC, UT
