DOG LAKE - MILL D NORTH FORK


DESCRIPTION:  Enjoy hiking up to an alpine lake.  Mill D North Fork is a shared trail with mountain bikers.  The trail splits at 1.9 miles, Dog Lake (left), and Desolation Lake (right).   (There is a new upper trail from Dog Lake to the Desolation trail, without going down the hill.)



MILEAGE: 2 1/2 miles to the lake
ELEVATION GAIN: 1490'





HIKE TIME: Allow 3 hours and 20 minutes for a fun time.
RESTROOM AVAILABLE across the street from trailhead.
WATERSHED: No dogs allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon
GEAR: Hiking pole, bug spray, hat, sunglasses, water, food, camera, etc.

WALL LAKE

Wall Lake is one of our favorite Mirror Lake Highway hikes.  We hiked from Trial Lake to Wall Lake.  


TRIAL LAKE
RATINGS: Newbies
MILEAGE: 1 mile each way to the lake
HIKE TIME:  Allow 3 hours to enjoy this adventure
RESTROOM: Available at Trial Lake
DOGS allowed on leash
GEAR: Jacket, water, food, sunscreen, bug spray, camera, map, swimming gear, fishing gear, etc.
FEE: $6 Mirror Lake Recreation Pass for 3 days.

DIRECTIONS:  From Kamas, drive 26 miles and turn left at the Crystal Lake turn-off; then turn right into Trial Lake parking.   Trail begins at the west side of the dam.

DESOLATION LAKE


DESCRIPTION:  The trailhead is at MILL D NORTH FORK up Big Cottonwood Canyon.   After hiking 2 miles the trail splits, Dog Lake on the right and Desolation Lake on the Left.  A new switchback has replaced the steep section.   
Further up the trail, there is a new upper trail to Dog Lake.
Take a walk around beautiful Desolation Lake and enjoy.

RATINGS: INTERMEDIATE
MILEAGE: 8 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 1965'
HIKE TIME: Allow 4 1/3 hours for fun
RESTROOM at Mill D South Fork 



NO DOGS allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon
MOUNTAIN BIKES are allowed on the trail all days.
GEAR:  Water, sunscreen, sunglasses, jacket, camera, sack lunch, energy snacks, hiking pole, etc.
BACKPACKING: Camp 200' away from lakes, trails and steams and 100' from other campsites.  Bring a camp stove.
DIRECTIONS: Drive 9.2 miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon.

ELBOW FORK OVERLOOK

DESCRIPTION: Park at Elbow Fork.  When you come to a trail junction, take the trail to the left, to Mount Aire.   When you reach Mount Aire pass, you see a rocky area to the left to sit on.  That is the overlook.



RATINGS: Intermediate
ELEVATION GAIN: 1200'
MILEAGE: 1 mile


HIKE TIME: Allow 3 hours to have fun.
RESTROOM available at Elbow Fork trailhead


DOGS are allowed off leash on ODD days
GEAR: Hiking pole, water, sunscreen, sunglasses, camera, food, etc.
