Union Pacific Rail Trail

Weathermen predicted rain showers; but God gave us a partly sunny day. A window of blue sky followed us. Today we saw deer, lamas, cows, horses, dogs, and goats. And we even saw an owl.




WANSHIP to SOUTH ECHO CAMPGROUND LOOP


  • DESCRIPTION: A dirt/gravel double track following the old Union Pacific Rail line. There is a paved section in Coalville, running from the highway exit to the beginning of Echo Reservoir.

  • RATINGS: Moderate

  • BIKE TIME: 3 1/2 hours

  • MILEAGE: 9.5 miles each way

  • RESTROOMS: At Wanship and Coalville

  • GEAR: Water, sunscreen, jacket, camera, extra tube, thorn liner, flat repair tools, helmet, and pump.

  • DIRECTIONS: From Salt Lake City, drive up Parley's Canyon on I-80. Keep driving east, past Park City. Take the Wanship exit, and turn left. Drive all the way through town. The Rail Trail parking lot is paved with a restroom and is near the old Spring Chicken Inn.

BIG BEACON

God gave us an exciting day, with wildflowers, sunshine, great fellowship, and a little rain. It was fun climbing to the summit of Wire Mountain.












  • DESCRIPTION: From the Red Butte - Bonneville Shoreline trail, we went to up the main trail, by Georges Hollow. 1 mile up, there is a fork in the trail. If you go left it will take you to the Living Room. If you go straight this will lead you to the summit.

  • TRAILHEAD: On Colorow Drive, near Wakara Way, Salt Lake City, Utah

  • RATINGS: Intermediate

  • MILEAGE: 2.14 miles to the summit

  • ELEVATION: 2,140' gain

  • HIKING TIME: 4 hours

  • DOG allowed on leash

  • GEAR: Water, jacket, sack lunch, hiking pole, first aid, camera, sunscreen, and hat. Bring at least 3 bottles of water, or a Camelback.

LEGACY PARKWAY











Riding a bicycle on the Legacy Parkway is a wonderful way to enjoy a Spring Day. God blessed us with an enjoyable day and wonderful fellowship!



  • DESCRIPTION: Legacy Parkway is a two lane paved parkway trail, connecting with the Jordan River Parkway in North Salt Lake, and ending at Frontrunner's Farmington Station.

  • RESTROOM: A port-a-potty is available at the Center Street trailhead. A new park at 2 1/2 miles will have restrooms too. And at Farmington, a new Harmons and shopping center is being built.

  • RATINGS: Moderate,

  • ELEVATION: 60' e.g.

  • BIKE TIME: 2 to 3 hours on mountain bikes

  • MILEAGE: 23 miles round trip

  • TRAILHEAD: Center Street trailhead is west of Foxboro Drive 1100 North, & Center Street in North Salt Lake. A few blocks west of Marerik Country Store on Center St. and Redwood Road.

  • KID FRIENDLY No busy roads to cross.

  • GEAR: There's no water on the trail. Pack water, jacket, snacks, helmet, gloves, pump, sunscreen, tools, extra tube, & flat repair stuff.
