Doughnut Falls Snow Hike

We pulled in the parking lot the same time that Calvary Chapel Youth Group did.   They invited us to a BBQ fellowship after they went sledding.   If you have kids that are not involved in a Youth Group, this is a great one to join.



DESCRIPTION: Park at Mill D South Fork in Big Cottonwood Canyon,  hike up the road to the trailhead, and follow the snow packed trail to Doughnut Falls.  It may be dangerous climbing up to the falls.  Hiking poles are highly recommended. Use caution, It may be icy climbing down to the stream.
RATINGS: MODERATE
MILEAGE: 3.12 miles round trip

ELEVATION GAIN: 500'
HIKE TIME: 2 hours

NO DOGS allowed in Big Cottonwood Watershed

SNOWSHOE 201

It felt like January; but it was great being in God's great mountains.






We enjoyed an afternoon hike through the campgrounds from the sledding area up Big Cottonwood Canyon.  It felt like mid January weather, cool, windy, and fresh snow.
RATINGS: Newbies
GEAR: Snowshoe, poles, snow boots, knit hat, insulated gloves, wool socks, and dress in layers.  Bring water, energy snacks, sunscreen, sunglasses, and camera.
RESTROOM: available at Mill D South Fork parking.
DIRECTIONS: Drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon to Mill D South Fork and park.
NO DOGS allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

SKYLINE NATURE TRAIL



Adventure begins with Jesus!



 
DESCRIPTION:  This makes a great Sunday afternoon hike.   We begin at the Wakara Way, Colorow Road trail head and walk up to the Bonneville Shoreline trail.  Take the first trail up.  Follow the fence line around Red Butte Garden.  At the top of the fence line take the down trail.  (The upper trail climbs up to the Living Room.)   The trail crosses a bridge at the bottom.  From there you can take the road down, or a choice of two upper trails back.
At the bottom, head south on the Bonneville Shoreline and trace your way back.
RATINGS: Moderate
HIKE TIME: 1 1/2 hours
MILEAGE: 3 miles
ELEVATION GAIN: 550'
DOGS love this hike. (Bring clean up bags).
GEAR: Water, hiking pole, snacks, camera, hat, and sunscreen.
