Doughnut Falls Snowshoe










Wonderful day, waking up to fresh snow over the tulips. God blessed us with a fun morning playing in the snow up Big Cottonwood Canyon. We saw people snowboarding and skiing down from Kessler Peak. There were no crowds!



  • DESCRIPTION: Park at Mill D South Fork up Big Cottonwood Canyon. Hike the cabin road up .8 miles where you'll see a closed restroom. This is the Summer trailhead to Doughnut Falls. We choose to go up the trail to the falls on the left, and return on the Cardiff Mine road on the right, making a loop. On the trail, look for the foot bridge. Near the falls be careful, or you may fall into the deep stream bed. Some of us climbed up the the top of the falls.

  • RATINGS: Moderate

  • May be too dangerous for children by the stream and falls.

  • MILEAGE: 1.6 miles to falls

  • ELEVATION GAIN: 490' e.g.

  • HIKE TIME: Allow 3 hours from the Big Cottonwood Canyon road.

  • GEAR: Snow shovel, water, energy food, sunscreen, camera, wear layers,

  • WATERSHED: No dogs allowed in Big Cottonwood Canyon

  • DIRECTIONS: Big Cottonwood Canyon begins at Wasatch Blvd & Fort Union Blvd, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Drive up the canyon 9 miles and park at the pull off at Mill D South Fork.

The Living Room

God blessed us with a great Spring day hike! We went by faith! It looked like a rainy day; but Jesus gave us a beautiful sunny day! The Living Room has stone chairs to sit on and fantastic views of Salt Lake City.




DESCRIPTION: Park by the Bonneville Shoreline trail, near the gate to Red Butte Gardens, on Colorow Drive and Wakara Way. Follow the shoreline trail south. Near Georges Hollow take the trail to the left up to the upper shoreline trail and turn right. You'll find the main trail to the Big Beacon & Living Room around the bend. Stay on the main trail, and do not take any minor trails to the left or right. At the top of the gulley, there is a fork in the trail. Go left to the Living Room or go straight for the summit hike.



  • RATINGS: MODERATE

  • MILEAGE: 1.3 miles each way

  • ELEVATION: 950' gain

  • KIDS & DOGS enjoy this trail.

  • NO RESTROOMS are available

  • HIKE TIME: Allow 2 hours, plus time at the Living Room

  • DIRECTIONS: From Foothill Blvd, near the U of U, follow signs to Red Butte Gardens. Drive up Wakara Way and turn right on Colorow Dr and park.

explore de Isle

God gave us a wonderful day for a Spring bike ride and a hike to the top of Buffalo Point. It was buggy on the causeway; but bug free on the Isle. We saw a jack rabbit near the beach. Jesus held back the stormy weather until our trip home.

ANTELOPE ISLAND STATE PARK

DESCRIPTION: An energetic bicycle ride onto the Island, up to the visitor center, down to the beach, and up to Buffalo Point. (Buffalo Grill has moved down to the beach and opens 11am.) Locking our bicycles, we hike up Buffalo Point to a rocky area to eat lunch. It was fun coasting down the hill back to the causeway.

RATING: MODERATE - not for kids and too long for most beginners.

RESTROOMS: Available throughout the park.

MILEAGE: 21 miles total

TIME: Allow 4 hours from start to finish.

FEE: $3 per bicycle rider (senior discount available too)

DIRECTIONS: Take I-15 to Syracuse/Layton, exit onto Antelope Drive and head west toward the Great Salt Lake.
